Nova Scotia RCMP have reported that an 18-year-old individual is facing numerous charges for allegedly showing up at his former partner’s workplace in Eastern Passage wearing a mask and carrying a loaded rifle. The incident occurred outside a restaurant on Cow Bay Road around 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting a call to the police.
According to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mandy Edwards, the man had a previous relationship with one of the restaurant’s employees. The situation raised concerns as the masked individual was standing outside the establishment. The Halifax Regional Police canine unit quickly responded and apprehended the man, who was also wearing gloves and had a concealed firearm in his possession.
Upon attempting to flee, the suspect was arrested by the canine unit. Law enforcement officers confiscated a loaded rifle, ammunition, and a prohibited magazine from the individual. Cpl. Edwards emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the risks associated with possessing a loaded firearm while masked, especially in cases of intimate partner violence.
Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Romkey Drive, where authorities seized a loaded handgun with a prohibited magazine, two long guns, ammunition, two RCMP uniform patches, and body armor. The 18-year-old is now facing over 50 charges related to the incident, including offenses such as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, criminal harassment, and disguise with intent.
Additionally, the suspect is facing further charges linked to previous incidents involving the same victim in December and January. Cpl. Edwards confirmed that the recent incident was categorized as potential intimate partner violence based on the man’s prior charges. The individual is also accused of assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent, and criminal harassment stemming from incidents in late 2025 and early 2026.
Expressing deep concern, Edwards stressed the seriousness of the incidents and the potential dangers they posed. The accused is currently in custody and is set to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on April 23.
