Gallrein’s victory adds to a growing list of Trump-endorsed candidates who have unseated Republican lawmakers who clashed with the president, including Sen. Bill Cassidy in Louisiana and Indiana state senators who opposed Trump on redistricting. Additionally, in Kentucky, Rep. Andy Barr secured the nomination to replace Mitch McConnell, the longtime Senate leader, in a signal of generational change within the party.
In other states, such as Alabama and Georgia, Trump-endorsed candidates like Rep. Barry Moore and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones are advancing in their respective races, underscoring Trump’s continued influence on Republican primary outcomes. The shifting political landscape also saw defeats for figures like Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who lost in the gubernatorial race, setting the stage for a Republican runoff in June.
Trump’s endorsement power faces a significant test in Texas, where he backed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Senate primary, challenging incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.
