U.S. President Donald Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, stated in a White House memo released on Friday that Trump remains in excellent health. The memo detailed results from a recent examination showing that the 79-year-old president has “slight lower leg swelling” and “benign” hand bruising. According to Barbabella, Trump continues to demonstrate strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function, affirming that he is fully capable of carrying out his duties as commander in chief and head of state.
Trump’s visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday, his third in 13 months, attracted attention due to previous disclosures of his health conditions following public observations of swollen ankles, bruised hands, and a blotchy neck. Following the visit, Trump confirmed that “everything checked out perfectly.”
The memo highlighted Trump’s “slight lower leg swelling with improvement from last year” and persistent hand bruising attributed to frequent handshaking while using aspirin for cardiovascular prevention. It did not address the reason for skin treatment on Trump’s neck in March or mention whether he underwent another MRI exam as he did in October.
Trump, set to turn 80 in June and being the oldest person to assume the presidency, often contrasts himself with his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, suggesting he is more energetic and healthier. The memo from Friday stated that Trump’s cardiac function is normal, and he underwent a comprehensive neurological examination that showed normal mental status, including evaluations for depression and anxiety.
The memo also mentioned that Trump, standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 238 pounds, received preventive counseling on diet, low-dose aspirin use, increased physical activity, and weight loss recommendations to maintain his health.
