The Toronto Blue Jays made the decision to place Alejandro Kirk, their catcher, on the 10-day injured list this past Saturday. Kirk sustained a fracture in his left thumb during the 10th inning of the team’s 5-4 defeat against the Chicago White Sox on Friday. The incident occurred when Chicago’s Austin Hays hit a pitch that struck Kirk’s glove, prompting him to exit the game immediately, with Tyler Heineman taking his place.
Following the game, the 27-year-old Kirk underwent X-rays to assess the extent of his injury. Heineman was slated to be the starting catcher for the Blue Jays in their Saturday afternoon game against the White Sox. In response to Kirk’s injury, the Blue Jays called up Brandon Valenzuela from triple-A Buffalo on the same day.
Kirk, who had received his second all-star nod back in 2025, displayed impressive stats that year with a .282 batting average, 15 home runs, and a .769 on-base slugging percentage. However, in the current season, he started with one home run and three hits in 20 at-bats.
