Frozen concentrated juice is making a comeback in Canada, with Loblaw’s No Name brand set to reintroduce a variety of flavors in its stores nationwide. The new assortment will include White Lemonade, Pink Lemonade, Limeade, Grape Punch, Fruit Punch, and Berry Punch, according to Loblaw spokesperson Rachel Siekanowicz. These products are expected to be available before the end of June.
This relaunch follows Coca-Cola’s discontinuation of its Minute Maid line of frozen juices, leaving Loblaw as a significant player in the market. While other brands of frozen juice in Canada had been discontinued for years due to declining demand, Loblaw has identified a strong consumer demand for these products.
Loblaw clarified that the upcoming No Name juice will not be sourced from a Canadian supplier since there are currently no manufacturers producing frozen juice concentrate in Canada. The company started exploring alternative sources after learning that frozen juice would no longer be available through existing suppliers like Coca-Cola.
Frozen juice from concentrate, a product that has been around for over 80 years, experienced a decline in popularity over the years. Despite this, Loblaw remains optimistic about the demand for its new products, with prices expected to start around $2.25 for 283 milliliters. Additionally, other retailers like Metro are also considering introducing their own versions of frozen concentrate in the near future.
While the market for frozen juice concentrate in Canada seemed to have disappeared, there are hints that a Canadian producer may be considering re-entering the market. This potential development could provide relief for consumers, especially those in Newfoundland who use frozen juice cans to make a popular holiday cocktail called “slush.”
