Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to the filming of the CBC comedy series “Son of a Critch” along with his youngest son, Hadrien. Hadrien, a fan of the show like his father, will make a cameo appearance as an extra in an upcoming episode of the show’s fifth season.
During their visit to the set in Newfoundland, creator Mark Critch welcomed the Trudeaus, allowing the 12-year-old to participate in a school scene. However, jokingly, Critch mentioned that Justin Trudeau did not appear in any scenes as they already had a drama teacher for the production.
Trudeau shared his experience on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and praising the show as a quintessential representation of Canadian culture. The visit lasted two days, during which the former prime minister and his son interacted with the cast and crew. Hadrien even impressed actor Malcolm McDowell with his knowledge of the show’s details during a press event.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who plays a young Mark Critch on the show, mentioned that Hadrien engaged in discussions about acting choices, scene blocking, and background tips. Ainsworth praised Hadrien as a delightful individual to work with.
Justin Trudeau has a total of three children, with his eldest son Xavier venturing into a music career. Xavier released his debut R&B song titled “Til The Nights Done” in 2025, featuring his younger sister on background vocals.
The friendship between Trudeau and Critch dates back to their appearances on CBC’s political satire program, “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” Critch discovered the Trudeaus’ admiration for “Son of a Critch” when they attended his book launch in Ottawa last year.
