“Canadian Astronaut’s Historic Lunar Voyage Chronicled in New Book”

Get prepared for takeoff as Jeremy Hansen’s groundbreaking voyage on the Artemis II expedition will be chronicled in a forthcoming book scheduled for release this autumn.

Titled “Earthrise: A Canadian Astronaut’s Journey into Deep Space,” the book will recount Hansen’s experiences as the inaugural Canadian to journey into deep space. The author of this book is John Larsen, a former senior military public affairs officer.

During the Artemis II mission, the crew, which included Hansen along with NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, achieved the record for the farthest distance traveled from Earth by humans. This mission, the first crewed lunar expedition in more than half a century, garnered significant attention and admiration from Canadians.

While the crew did not land on the moon, Hansen, as the first Canadian and non-American, became the pioneer to voyage to the moon. Throughout the 10-day mission, the astronauts ran tests on various systems, including communication via NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN), and conducted experiments to study the effects of space on the human body.

“Earthrise” will offer readers an exclusive glimpse into Hansen’s extensive training regime, the journey he undertook to realize his lifelong ambition of becoming an astronaut, and the lunar mission that propelled him into deep space.

Hansen, who recently announced his retirement from the Canadian Space Agency after serving 17 years as an astronaut and spending 32 years in the military, described the Artemis II mission as a representation of the pinnacle of human potential in space exploration and innovation.

John Larsen, a writer and university instructor based in Calgary, carried out in-depth interviews with Hansen for the book. According to Larsen, “Earthrise” delves into themes of personal accomplishment, national pride, and the universal aspiration for individual success.

Published by HarperCollinsCanada, “Earthrise: A Canadian Astronaut’s Journey into Deep Space” is slated for release on October 27, 2026.
