Two food establishments in Kelowna, British Columbia, have faced penalties for breaching provincial liquor regulations within a week of each other. The Caribbean restaurant was fined $11,000 for allowing alcohol to be taken off its premises on March 31. Additionally, an Indian restaurant had its liquor license suspended for 10 days on March 23 after serving alcohol to a minor without checking their identification.
These penalties were issued by the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch in the past week. The Taaz Indian Restaurant on Pandosy Street in Kelowna admitted to the violation that led to its 10-day liquor license suspension. The incident involved a minor agent being served a Corona beer in November 2025 without proper age verification.
A minor agent is an individual under 19 years old who orders alcohol under the supervision of a liquor branch inspector. The regulator determined that the beer was served without checking the minor agent’s identification.
In a separate case, The House of the Caribbean Food Supply Shop was found to have allowed patrons to take alcohol off its premises, a violation of provincial rules. Inspectors observed this breach during a visit in October 2025 and noted repeated violations over the past two years.
Despite warnings from the liquor branch, the operator of The House of the Caribbean did not take corrective action to prevent patrons from removing alcohol from the designated service area. The restaurant was fined $11,000 for this violation, with the regulator emphasizing the importance of license holders’ compliance with regulatory processes.
