“Montreal-Based Foodtastic Bringing Dunkin’ Donuts to Canada”

Foodtastic, a Montreal-based restaurant operator, is set to introduce Dunkin’ Donuts to the Canadian market, aiming to open numerous locations across the country starting this year. The company has forged a partnership with Inspire Brands to bring back one of the largest coffee chains in America to Canada.

Initially focusing on Toronto and Montreal, Foodtastic plans to establish a presence in Ontario and Quebec before expanding to other provinces. The CEO, Peter Mammas, anticipates opening the first Dunkin’ Donuts store within six months and subsequently launching one new store each month.

Despite Tim Hortons’ dominant position with over 4,000 stores in Canada, experts believe that Dunkin’ Donuts’ re-entry may not pose a significant threat. David Soberman, a marketing professor at the University of Toronto, suggests that smaller chains might face challenges when a major player like Dunkin’ Donuts enters a market already dominated by established brands.

Robert Carter, the president of the Coffee Association of Canada, notes that there is still room for growth in the Canadian coffee market. With similarities between the U.S. and Canadian coffee trends, American brands like Dunkin’ Donuts may find a welcoming environment in Canada.

While some customers express loyalty to Tim Hortons, others are excited about Dunkin’ Donuts’ return. Mammas highlights the Canadian roots of the venture, emphasizing that the Dunkin’ Donuts outlets will be operated by Canadian franchisees. Anticipation is building among customers like Jay Antflick, a Toronto-based flight attendant, who eagerly awaits the opening day to indulge in Dunkin’ Donuts’ offerings.
