The Saskatchewan Roughriders have dismissed receiver Ajou Ajou from the team following a CFL investigation that found him in violation of the league’s policy on gender-based violence and harassment. The CFL disclosed that Ajou had engaged in aggressive and unwelcome physical contact with multiple women at a restaurant in Regina on November 18, 2025, which coincided with the Riders’ Grey Cup championship parade.
Multiple allegations were reported in late January, prompting the CFL to launch a third-party investigation involving interviews with Ajou, witnesses, and complainants. As a result, Ajou has been suspended for the entirety of the 2026 preseason games and a minimum of six additional games.
Roughriders’ Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager, Jeremy O’Day, emphasized the team’s zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence and harassment. He stated that Ajou’s actions contradicted the organization’s values of integrity and respect, leading to his dismissal from the team.
Ajou’s reinstatement process will involve mandatory counseling sessions, a psychological assessment, and a meeting with the league commissioner. Failure to satisfactorily complete any step may result in a modification to his discipline. O’Day confirmed that Ajou will not return to the Roughriders even if reinstated by the CFL.
The CFL mandates annual education on gender-based violence and harassment for all players, coaches, staff, and personnel. When asked, Regina police confirmed they had not received any complaints regarding Ajou. The league offers support and resources to those affected by such incidents through a gender-based violence consultant with extensive experience in supporting survivors and assessing risks.
