A transition to spring hasn’t stopped the snowfall in parts of Newfoundland, as more snow is on the way. A special weather statement spanning from Port aux Basques to the Avalon Peninsula has been upgraded to a snowfall warning for the Burin and Avalon peninsulas, as well as Clarenville. Southwest Newfoundland is expected to experience snow starting overnight and moving eastward by Wednesday morning.
According to CBC meteorologist Ashley Brauweiler, areas under the warning could see around 10 to 15 centimeters of snow, with potential for higher amounts in some locations. This follows a series of winter storms that recently impacted the province, leading to school and government office closures in the St. John’s metro area.
Winds are forecasted to gust between 40 and 50 km/h from the east or northeast throughout Wednesday. Parts of the southern Avalon and southern Burin peninsulas may experience a mix of snow, ice pellets, or freezing rain. Snowfall is expected to diminish from west to east during the day, possibly causing hazardous travel conditions in various areas.
