A heat wave over the weekend led to the breaking of daily high temperature records in 26 locations across British Columbia on Sunday. The highest temperature of 36.8 C was recorded in Lytton, surpassing the previous record of 35.4 C set in 2002. Other communities such as Lillooet, Cache Creek, Pemberton, and Port Alberni also experienced temperatures exceeding 35 C, with Pemberton reaching 36.3 C.
In addition, Vancouver and Victoria, the two largest population centers in B.C., reported record-breaking temperatures. Vancouver hit 26.8 C, surpassing the 1932 record by 1.2 degrees, while Victoria exceeded 30 C, breaking a record set in 1999. The warm weather is expected to continue throughout the province this week.
Several other communities, including Tofino, Whistler, Squamish, Sechelt, Qualicum Beach, Powell River, Port Hardy, Nanaimo, Hope, Abbotsford, Campbell River, and Bella Bella, also saw record high temperatures on Sunday.
