Border security officials have intercepted 87 kilograms of narcotics destined for Alberta at the Canada-United States border. The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported that suspected cocaine was confiscated at the Coutts Port of Entry on the Alberta-Montana border. The seizure occurred on February 15 and involved the discovery of drugs concealed in three suitcases within the cab of a commercial truck heading to Calgary with a shipment labeled as produce.
Janalee Bell-Boychuck, the CBSA Prairie regional director, emphasized the significance of the seizure in disrupting organized crime and preventing harmful substances from reaching Alberta communities. The driver was apprehended by CBSA officers and handed over to the RCMP for further action.
This incident follows three previous drug seizures at the Coutts border crossing where CBSA officers impounded over 1,000 kilograms of narcotics. The CBSA disclosed that its Alberta officers made 1,292 illegal narcotics seizures in 2025, underscoring the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.
