“Canada Soccer, Player Associations Approve New Collective Bargaining Deal”

Canada Soccer and the player associations for the men’s and women’s senior national teams have officially approved a new collective bargaining agreement. This agreement formalizes a framework deal that was initially negotiated in 2024. The ratification of this agreement was dependent on a revised contract with Canadian Soccer Media & Entertainment, now known as Canadian Soccer Business. Both parties reached a new 12-year agreement in February, providing a substantial financial boost to the governing body.

The collective bargaining agreement will be effective from June 1, 2024, until December 31, 2027. Canada Soccer stated in a press release that the agreement ensures fair compensation opportunities and benefits for both the men’s and women’s national teams.

Key provisions of the agreement include a no-strike, no-lockout clause and the introduction of revenue sharing, where players will receive a share of ticket revenue from home friendly matches. Additionally, revenue from the World Cup will be distributed, with funds from the group stage and prize money from the knockout stage being evenly split between the men’s and women’s teams.

As part of the agreement, a program has been established to provide $20,000 to players for support during the World Cup group stage, along with an extra $5,000 per match for travel and accommodation expenses for their relatives. This development coincides with Canada’s preparations to host 13 games during the 2026 World Cup in Vancouver and Toronto.
