“KPop Demon Hunters Creator Receives Key to Toronto”

The mastermind behind the award-winning animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has been honored with the key to Toronto, her hometown. Maggie Kang, a Korean-Canadian filmmaker, was surprised by Mayor Olivia Chow during a panel discussing the film’s success at Departure Festival.

Mayor Chow commended Kang’s achievements and highlighted how her journey would serve as an inspiration for future generations. Kang, upon receiving the key, graciously posed for photos with Mayor Chow and Cindy Gouveia, the president of Sheridan College where she studied.

Following its debut, “KPop Demon Hunters” has broken Netflix records as the most-watched film, generating a chart-topping soundtrack and securing approval for a sequel. During the panel, Kang, the writer and co-director, hinted at the upcoming project, emphasizing her commitment to delivering a sequel that matches the high standards set by the original.

Later that day, Kang is set to be honored with the cultural innovator award at the Departure Honours gala.
