Man Accused in Murder Plot Faces Bail Hearing

A man, aged 30, accused of plotting to kill the son of a couple from Dieppe who were murdered in 2019 is scheduled for a bail hearing in court on Wednesday. Nicholas Bain recently underwent a 30-day fitness evaluation at the Restigouche Hospital Centre in Campbellton as requested by the Crown in his case. The prosecutor, Patrick Wilbur, had initially requested a shorter assessment but later asked for a longer one due to some concerns he had hoped would be addressed. During a phone appearance in Moncton provincial court, a prosecutor speaking in French did not disclose the results of Bain’s evaluation but requested his return from Campbellton. The judge, Luc Labonté, has set the bail hearing for April 1.

Bain is facing charges of conspiring to kill Sylvio Saulnier, the son of Bernard Saulnier, 78, and Rose-Marie, 74, who were discovered deceased in their residence on Amirault Street in Dieppe. Sylvio Saulnier died by suicide in 2023. During a video appearance, Bain was repeatedly instructed by an individual in the room with him to face the camera but remained seated with his head bowed and did not speak.

Bain, along with Janson Bryan Baker, Jesse Todd Logue, Monique Alicia Boyer, and Christopher Allen Lennon, is collectively charged with plotting to kill Saulnier between August 29, 2019, and September 30, 2019. He will be held in custody until his next court appearance.
