“Nunavut Assembly Stands with Greenland Against Annexation Threats”

Members of Nunavut’s Legislative Assembly exhibited solidarity with Greenland by hoisting its flag in response to the annexation threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump. The flag-raising ceremony in downtown Iqaluit was attended by various individuals, including the territory’s premier, the Speaker, a representative from the Danish consulate, and Greenlanders residing in Nunavut.

David Joanasie, the Speaker of Nunavut, emphasized the strong bonds between Nunavut’s Inuit community and the significant Inuit population in Greenland. He expressed support for those Greenlanders living in Nunavut, affirming unity and voicing their stance against the annexation threats.

Trump recently shared a digitally manipulated image showing him in a meeting with European leaders in the Oval Office, with American flags superimposed over Greenland, Canada, Cuba, and Venezuela on a map of the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, Trump has made statements about imposing tariffs on eight European countries that have opposed his Greenland acquisition plans.

In a show of solidarity, people marched in Iqaluit to support Greenland while simultaneous protests against Trump took place in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.
