PopWheels, in particular, targets food delivery workers, allowing them to swap batteries to avoid carrying extra weight during their shifts. This innovation has been well-received by workers like Natnael Kenaw, who previously experienced back pain from carrying additional batteries. By utilizing the service, Kenaw noted a significant improvement in convenience and safety.
PopWheels, which initially launched in New York City, has expanded to Toronto, offering unlimited battery swaps for a monthly fee. The smart lockers provided by these companies are equipped with safety features to prevent thermal incidents and theft, ensuring a hassle-free experience for users.
PowerShelter, another company in the market, was inspired by a ban on e-bike charging in workplaces. The company’s smart charging lockers are designed to be installed in various locations to cater to e-bike users’ needs, promoting safer charging practices and reducing the risk of battery-related incidents.
