Peabo Bryson, a renowned Grammy-winning R&B vocalist known for his collaborations on Disney movie soundtracks, has passed away at 75 years old.
The family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love towards Bryson, acknowledging the profound impact his voice and kind spirit had on many lives. Apart from his Disney contributions, Bryson enjoyed a successful career spanning over fifty years with hits like “Feel the Fire,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Can You Stop the Rain.”
Celine Dion, who worked with Bryson on the song “Beauty and the Beast,” conveyed her condolences in a tribute, highlighting the joy and comfort Bryson brought into her life through music. The track, penned by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, clinched two Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards.
Bryson, a South Carolina native, collaborated with a plethora of music icons such as Minnie Riperton, Roberta Flack, and Natalie Cole over his career. His chart-topping successes included classics like “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.”
In 2018, Bryson made a musical comeback with his album “Stand for Love,” produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. His latest release, “Grace,” marked his 22nd album, hitting shelves in February.
Beyond his music endeavors, Bryson also graced the stage in various productions like “Raisin,” “The Wiz,” and “Porgy and Bess.” Despite facing health challenges, including a heart attack in 2019 and a recent stroke, Bryson remained resilient.
Fellow artists, including Jody Watley and Kenny Lattimore, along with Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, paid tribute to Bryson online. The family plans to announce memorial arrangements at a later date to honor Bryson’s legacy.
