“Revving Up: The Booming Market for Used EVs”

Welcome to our weekly environmental newsletter, where we spotlight trends and solutions driving us towards a sustainable world. I’m Nicole Mortillaro, delving into the viability of purchasing a pre-owned electric vehicle (EV). With rising gas prices and aging conventional cars, exploring the used EV market seemed like a prudent move. Surprisingly, the market for pre-owned EVs is flourishing.

If, like me, you’ve contemplated buying a used EV but are unsure where to start, you’re not alone. Questions about battery life and range may arise. However, the range of older EV models, typically between 100 to 200 kilometers on a single charge, has significantly improved over the years. While considering range is important, experts suggest it’s often overestimated. Tailoring your choice to your daily driving needs is key.

Concerns about battery life in used EVs are valid, but advancements in battery technology since 2015, such as active cooling, have significantly increased battery longevity. It is recommended to obtain a state of health report on the battery before purchase. If the battery health is around 70%, it might be best to reconsider the purchase.

The thriving used EV market indicates a promising future, with projections suggesting a surge in demand in the coming years. Encouraging the adoption of EVs not only benefits the environment but also contributes to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. Investing in an EV is not just a financial decision but an environmentally conscious choice that can positively impact our communities.
