“Canadian Tennis Players Face Defeats at Monte Carlo Masters”

Canadian tennis players Gabriel Diallo and Denis Shapovalov faced defeats in their opening men’s singles matches on Monday at the Monte Carlo Masters. Shapovalov, hailing from Richmond Hill, Ont., was defeated by Belgian Alexander Blockx with a scoreline of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Despite both players landing two aces each, Shapovalov struggled with five double faults compared to Blockx’s two. Blockx capitalized on three out of four break point opportunities, while Shapovalov managed to convert only two out of seven.

On the other hand, Joao Fonseca from Brazil outplayed Diallo from Montreal in a straight-set victory of 6-2, 6-3. Fonseca, with two aces and no service faults, dominated the match while Diallo struggled with four double faults against his single ace. Fonseca secured five service breaks out of eight chances, while Diallo managed to convert only one out of four break points.
