Police officers in York Region have issued a public alert following a recent incident of a coyote attack in Markham, Ontario, occurring on Sunday. According to reports, a child was bitten in the head by a coyote at a park near Roy Rainey and Bur Oak avenues at approximately 7:30 p.m. The child, believed to be around five years old, was promptly transported to a hospital for treatment, with the bite being categorized as non-life-threatening.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution when visiting parks in the vicinity of McCowan Road and 16th Avenue in Markham. This incident comes on the heels of a similar attack last week, where a 16-year-old girl was bitten by a coyote in the area of Mingay and Bur Oak avenues, sustaining minor injuries that required medical attention.
In light of these events, the police emphasize the importance of vigilance, maintaining a safe distance from wildlife, and refraining from approaching or attempting to feed coyotes to prevent further incidents.
