Denisa Křížová, Maja Nylen Persson, and Casey O’Brien orchestrated a remarkable comeback in the third period, propelling the New York Sirens to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Toronto Sceptres in Newark, N.J., on Wednesday night.
Both New York (9-2-3-13) and Toronto (9-1-5-12) find themselves deadlocked in fifth place in the Professional Women’s Hockey League standings, each boasting 34 points and trailing Ottawa by two points for the last playoff berth.
O’Brien sealed the deal by redirecting Nicole Vallario’s shot for the decisive goal with less than four minutes remaining. O’Brien, who had accumulated five assists in her previous three home games, became only the second rookie in PWHL history to amass over 20 points, following in the footsteps of Sarah Fillier in the 2024-25 season.
In a closely contested match, Toronto initially went ahead 2-0 with 11:09 left in the third period, but Křížová responded just 39 seconds later, notching her first goal for the Sirens by capitalizing on a loose puck in the slot with a backhanded shot past Raygan Kirk. Nylen Persson then equalized 2-2 with a power-play goal at the 5:07 mark.
The Sirens clinched their fourth consecutive home victory, marking their longest winning streak at home in a single season. Toronto, on the other hand, had previously won all four of its road games post-Olympic break.
In another intense matchup, the Boston Fleet secured a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Frost in Lowell, Mass. Jessie Eldridge shone with two goals and an assist, while Alina Muller contributed a goal and two assists for Boston (15-5-2-5), bringing them within one point of league leaders, Montreal (58).
Boston struck first just under five minutes into the game, with Muller setting up Eldridge for a powerful shot past Nicole Hensley. Eldridge went on to net a power-play goal in the second period, marking her 12th goal of the season and second two-goal performance in three games.
With Minnesota scoring early in the third period, Muller extended Boston’s lead to 3-1 with her fourth goal of the season, reaching a career-high 21 points. Boston has dominated the series against Minnesota this season, securing victories in three out of four matchups.
Minnesota, currently in third place with 49 points, needed at least one point to stay in contention for the top spot in the PWHL standings. The Frost managed third-period goals from Kendall Cooper and Britta Curl-Salemme, with Cooper scoring her first goal since Jan. 28 and Curl-Salemme maintaining a scoring streak in five consecutive road games.
The Fleet remains unbeaten in six games at the Tsongas Center this season (5-1-0-0).
